'Fazilka Voter Awareness Marathon' witnesses huge response, people run for health
Deputy Commissioner flagged off 5 and 10 kms marathons

Fazilka, March 31, 2019: During the 'Fazilka Voter Awareness Marathon', thousands of children, youngsters and senior citizen of Fazilka took part and demonstrated their concern about health. 5 and 10 km marathon organized by the district administration and sports department with a view to educating the youngsters about voting rights and health fitness.
Marathons were flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manpreet Singh Chhatwal. He also took part in 100 meter run of officers and officials of various departments of the district, in which SDM Fazilka Mr. Subhash Khatak, SDM Abohar Ms. Poonam Singh and SDM Jalalabad Mr. Keshav Goyel also participated.
Interacting the media persons, the Deputy Commissioner thanked the people of Fazilka for making this venture of district administration a success. He also expressed hope that such events will be held every year in view of the enthusiastic approach of the people.
Kulwinder Singh and Sukhwinder Singh both the runners clinched first and third positions respectively in both the men's category of 5 and 10 km marathons. Similarly, Surinder Singh remained second in 5 KM, while Rachhpal Singh got the second position in 10 km category. In women's 5 km marathon, Kajal Rani got the first position, Amarpal Kaur remained second and Kulwinder Kaur got the third position. All the first three winners in all categories were given cash prizes Rs.3100, 2100 and 1100 respectively, besides certificates and medals, whereas T-shirts, bibs, certificates, and refreshments were given to all the participants in both categories.
The highlights of the function were that all the children demonstrated the spirit of sportsmanship, while they showed their special focus on the cleanliness around the stadium and the along the route.
The enthusiasm of the people in these marathons was so high that even the children, youngsters and the elders as well as the administrative officers took part wholeheartedly. SDM Jalalabad Mr. Keshav Goyal also completed 5 km run.
Meanwhile, under the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities, the Election Commission of India has set up EVM And VVPAT machines stall under the supervision of Tehsildar Elections Mr. Satpal Bansal to aware the people about voting rights and voting process.
Adequate security arrangements were made and ambulances was stationed along the route. Apart from this, hundreds of volunteers trained by the Youth Services Department have kept an eagle eye on the players.
DSP Ms. Harpinder Kaur Gill, District Education Officer Mr. Kulwant Singh, District Education Coordinator Mr. Pammi Singh, Chief Lead Bank Manager Mr. Paramjit Kochar, Red Cross Secretary Mr. Subhash Arora, Elections Kanungo Mr. Harbans Singh, Principal Rajinder Kumar Vikhona, Mr. Ankit Kataria from Youth Services, Swimming Coach Mr. Naresh Rajauria and representatives of various social organizations played an impressive role to make these marathons a success.
